Google Questions and Answers is a function allowing local businesses to post FAQs to their Google My Business dashboard generating a display of this information on a limited number of platforms. Also allows the public to ask questions directly of the business and receive answers.

What is Google Q&A?

Google Q&A (which lives in the Google Business Profile / Maps listing) allows people to ask questions directly on your business’s profile. These questions and their answers become publicly visible to anyone who visits your listing.

Anyone with a Google account can post a question or an answer — not just the business owner. Because of that, it’s important to monitor and respond promptly so your authoritative voice is present. If you answer as the business (logged in with your Business Profile account), your answer is labeled with your business name and “Owner.”

Google sometimes highlights questions (or answers) with more upvotes. For example, a question with several “likes” may appear more prominently in the Knowledge Panel, encouraging visibility.

You can also proactively “seed” the Q&A section by posting common questions (then answering them yourself). This helps preempt frequently asked questions, improving user experience and potentially serving as a mini FAQ on your profile.

There is no way to disable Q&A; it’s built into Google’s listing system. That means you can’t opt out — whether you like it or not, questions may appear.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Who can ask or answer questions?
Anyone with a Google account. Business owners and customers alike can post questions and answers.
  2. How do I respond as the business owner?
Sign in with the account managing your Business Profile, search for your listing, click “See all questions,” and select “Answer.” Your answer will display with your business name and “Owner” label.
  3. Can questions or answers be edited or deleted?
The person who posted the question or answer can edit or delete it later. That’s why giving complete, context-rich answers helps protect against misinterpretation if someone changes the question later.
  4. Will questions with upvotes be more visible?
Yes. Google tends to surface questions or answers that receive more engagement (upvotes) in the Knowledge Panel view.
  5. Are Q&As helpful for SEO or visibility?
While not confirmed as a direct ranking factor, Q&A content is indexable. Using relevant keywords in question & answer text can help your profile match more search queries.
  6. How do I get notified of new questions?
In your Business Profile settings, enable email notifications for Q&A so you receive alerts when someone posts a question.
  7. What if a question or answer is spam or inappropriate?
You can flag or report it for removal if it violates Google’s content policies (spam, off-topic, inappropriate, etc.).
