Google Posts is a function of the Google My Business dashboard enabling a business owner to instantly post micro-blog-style content to their Knowledge Panel.

Added in 2017, Posts are a relatively new addition. Google API access to Posts was added in November 2017.

What is a Google Post?

Google Posts let business owners share timely updates with people who discover their business via Google. Whether it’s a special offer, event announcement, product launch, or general news, a Post appears right in your business listing, so users don’t have to click through to your website first.

When you create a Post, you can include a headline, description, image or video, and a call-to-action (CTA) button (such as “Book,” “Learn more,” or “Call now”). Once published, Google reviews it to ensure it meets content policies. If approved, it becomes visible in the “Updates” or “Overview” tab on mobile, or in the “From the owner” section on desktop.

Posts are especially helpful for businesses to keep their profile fresh, engage directly with searchers, and highlight timely promotions. While Google Posts themselves don’t guarantee improved rankings, they may boost visibility, drive clicks, and signal to users that your business is active.

One new development: for restaurants and bars, Google is launching a feature called “What’s Happening” which allows timely deal / event Posts to appear prominently under a “This week” label. This ties directly into the Google Posts mechanism.
