Source of reviews for any business but mostly bars and restaurants. Foursquare is a local search-and-discovery service mobile app which provides search results for its users.
What is Foursquare?
Foursquare is a geolocation technology company known for its local search, recommendations, and venue database. Originally, it gained popularity through check-in features in its mobile app (Foursquare City Guide) and its companion app, Swarm, for tracking places users visited.
Over time, it evolved into a location data platform and business listing directory. The Foursquare Places database now hosts millions of venue listings globally, which other apps and platforms use for mapping, recommendation, and local search services.
For businesses, Foursquare provides a “Foursquare for Business” tool through which you can claim or create your listing, update your business details, add photos, categorize your venue, and access analytics. Because many large platforms and apps use Foursquare’s location data, having an accurate listing there helps improve consistency across the web and increases the chance that your business shows up correctly in third-party apps, maps, and services.
Yes. Though its original check-in app is being sunsetted (Foursquare City Guide ended in Dec 2024; web version April 2025), its location data, venue API, and business listing services still play a role in many apps and mapping services.
Go to Foursquare’s “claim venue” or business listing page, search your business name and location, and follow verification steps (often by phone or email).
Creating and claiming a listing is generally free. Some features or instant access tools may incur a small one-time fee (e.g. $20 USD) for advanced listing control.
